Volk's Game
![]() by Brent Ghelfi // Picador Top photograph by Henry Sene Yee Model in white wig: LeeAnn Falciani Gun courtesy of Steve Snider Moscow photograph by Kevin Kelley / GettyImages In a thriller set in Modern Russia, Alexei Volkovoy—known to the underworld as Volk, is a feared gun-for-hire. But who they really fear is his partner-in-crime and lover. A wild-eyed, white-haired young female assassin. I thought that she would be an interesting character to focus on. The fun part was having my designer LeeAnn pose for a quick shoot with a platinum wig and a plastic toy gun that Steve had laying around from another photo shoot. I had to Photoshop out the orange capped tip and replace it with a real muzzle. Overall I went for a lighter "Bourne Identity" movie poster feel. A mention of the "photo shoot" was linked on The Book Design Review Blog. Thanks Joe. ![]()
Comments: This looks great! I thought it was for "Pulp Fiction 2"! Comments: the best part is that nobody knows that it isn't a wig! Comments: Steve owns a gun?? LeeAnn looks awesome in that wig, she should go blonde. Comments: Did they intentionally make the model look like a Volks Dollfie?? Comments: I never heard of a Volks Dolffie before. What a crazy coincidence. Thanks for the heads up. But no, making it look like a doll was not my intention and yes, LeeAnn's eyes are that big. Comments: I've never heard of a Volks Dollfie either. What a coincidence! But thank you for the compliment anonymous, the Volks Dollfies are very nice to look at! As for the eyes, it would require some pretty amazing photoshop skills to get my eyes to look so real...yes those are my eyes, and i guess they are big, so, thank you again for another compliment!! I guess this was a combination of a great photographer and model ;) Comments: Why everyone and their dog use photos of that goddamn cheesy Cathedral of Intercession of the Virgin on the Moat to represent "russianness" of their media-goods? It's cheesy. It looks like wedding cake decorated by stoned toy's designer. Google: Color Photo Copiers Northwest Volk's Game color copier |
